NEXEDGE: Multiple Solutions- One System

DIGITAL CONVENTIONAL
The Digital Conventional Mode offers extended system sharing over conventional systems. Both FM analog & digital units can share the same RF channel! Both subscriber units and base units have autosensing incoming FM or NXDM digital calls and talkback or repeat in the same mode.

DIGITAL TRUNKING
The Digital Trunking Mode provides increased capacity, enhanced call capabilities, improved security and faster communications with less user operation than conventional systems require. This gives enhanced efficiency, call queuing with priority, late entry, remote group add, and a fail soft mode.

DIGITAL TRUNKED WIDE AREA IP NETWORKS
The Multi-Site IP networks option leverages the power of IP to link NEXEDGE digital trunked sites together for wide area call capabilities. This gives large subscriber capacity for shared networks and large fleets. Subscriber units automatically roam for the best accessible sites while moving throughout a network. Subscriber units use advanced control channel hunting algorithms and RF signal strength monitoring to make accurate and prudent roaming and registration decisions.

FM CONVENTIONAL & LTR TRUNKING
All NEXEDGE products use advanced DSP-driven digital voice technologies and support both FM analog and new digital fleets. System type conversion or expansion only requires software options and /or additional base station units, i.e. no “forklift” upgrading.

NEXEDGE offers natural sounding digital voice that replicates individual human speech nuances. The AMBE+2 VOCODER offers superior voice quality at varying signal strength levels even at highway speeds.

NEXEDGE provides security for personnel safety and reduced liability exposure by protecting sensitive communications for you facilities and operations by using NXDN digital air interface which allows interface to prevent eavesdropping. NEXEDGE includes unit ID, emergency, GPS location, status and message capabilities in both FM and NSDM digital modes.

NarrowBanding 101

  • WHO NEEDS TO KNOW?
    ANYONE THAT USES RADIO COMMUNICATIONS
Any organization that uses UHF or VHF radios should take the time to review how this applies to them!

  • WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
NEW REQUIREMENTS MANDATED BY THE FCC
The FCC in 2004, mandated that LMR users below 512 MHz move from 25 KHz to 12.5 Khz narrowband voice channels. This applies to all businesses using UHF or VHF radios. The goal is to utilize a limited amount of radio spectrum more efficiently.

  • WHEN ARE THE DEADLINES?
    1 JANUARY 2011 AND 1 JANUARY 2013
As of 1 January, 2011, the FCC will no longer grant applications, additional frequencies or expansions on wideband channels. The only option will be narrowband.
On 1 January, 2013 all migration is to have been completed. Radio communications on previously wideband channels is to all be 12.5 KHz.

  • WHERE?
ANYWHERE YOU USE YOUR RADIOS OR HAVE LICENSES
If you use radios, this is the best time to review your FCC licensing! You should check to make sure you’re licensed for all your channels and using the radios properly, as well as all your sites are licensed. With very few exceptions, FCC expects all users to be licensed. We find users occasionally who use unlicensed channels but are using radios that don’t meet the requirements for those unlicensed channels.

  • WHY?
    INCREASE SPECTRUM EFFECIENCY
The FCC in 2004, mandated that LMR users below 512 MHz move from 25 KHz to 12.5 Khz narrowband voice channels. This applies to all businesses using UHF or VHF radios. The goal is to utilize a limited amount of radio spectrum more efficiently. Deadline for completion is 1 January, 2013.
